What a surprise, Chelmsford subtlety defending the club by insinuations that fans don't leave early because the stadium exit is shit. Shocked.

CLUB EMPLOYEE.

I will sometimes log off on SportsNation early if we are losing and will leave my seat empty

IT does if you're 3.0 down Chelmsford :-)

We always leave our seat with 5 to go and go down to the concourse and watch the last five from there as you can see it on the big screen , thats what a lot people do as its normally packed. We used to do the same at up and watch the last five on the tvs.

Just because youre not in your seat doesn't mean you've fucked off early.

Sorry, was NYE, my first game was 3 days before away. Yes, Hughes on stroke of h/t. Think NFFC were 2nd or 3rd at the time.

That forest game was my first ever Upton Park trip, 28th Dec 1994. Yes PD, 3.0 at H/T

Can't remember, but I think we won 3-0 or 3-1, something like that.

Was that the game when we were 3 up at half time? Hughes scored right on the stroke.

I've only ever once left early, and that was because I had to go somewhere else. New year's eve 1994, home to Nottingham Forest.

If we are losing badly and playing shit I leave at 70mims and save over an hour of waiting for trains.

If we are winning or it is looking close I stay and am happy for the wait. Last night being a good example.

Train times are just a bit out with kick off and final whistle times to make it work

These seeming empty seats are not so sir
They house the departed, the long ago stirred
The unseen and uncharted
Spirits of all of the west ham boys come
To the sticky bun and the chicken run.

The north bank the south bank
Arranged in rows
The legions of west ham that no longer go
My old boy your brother our uncle too
The rememberances of the terraces they stood on and knew
Down all the ages, gone but still come
The old boys of the west ham
All round us they run.

I didn't see people leaving early, although I was pretty engrossed in the game, but given that it took me nearly an hour to get from the ground to the platform to get the tube, I can't imagine there were that many early leavers tonight.

I never understand folk leaving early. Do the same people go to the cinema then leave ten minutes from the end so they miss the traffic?

Re: Empty seats at the end of the game even when we're winning
Commentators in the States called us out for leaving early today. They were incredulous that at 1-0 up against arguably biggest rivals with 5 mins to go and a result far from certain you would leave. I would agree. Why even fucking show up at all if your main motivation is getting home early.

Re: Empty seats at the end of the game even when we're winning
Back in the day when the Boleyn ground was terraced on three sides with the terracing continuing along to lower level of the main stand you could lose ten per cent of the crowd early without it really noticing. Nowadays in all seater stadia the empty seats clearly stand out.

The thing to look out for, to me, is not how many people leave early rather it's how many did not actually appear to turn up. Leaving early is a reflection of the game/performance/score, not turning up means something different. The difference could be a combination of things, again, such as low-fi opposition, dire football, dissatisfaction with the stadium etc.

I like there being empty seats. I hate my actual seat, so I can take my pick and get a better view. I realise now that there's actually a bit of atmosphere nearer the front.

Re: Empty seats at the end of the game even when we're winning
On TV the cameras always pointed at the chicken run , always empty seats and let's be fair never looked great.. Then
Lots had left and booed a win against hull last time we played them , Christ the game Saturday was far worse.
Early in the season there were three or four massive blocks of seats empty , these have gone as people have moved about changing seats , loads are moving . also as our capacity is around 57000 and it can 66000 does that not mean 9000 seats are empty , if our crowd is 50000 then that makes 16000 empty seats , there is a lot but not 16000 .
Can someone take a register next game please so we know who is sciving off.
